Finding Rainbows

Guys, so much stuff this week, I probably won’t get through all of it. BUT, first, you get to read this fun little smidgen from conference!

“To help you in this process, I invite all members, regardless of your current calling or level of activity in the Church, to obtain a copy of Preach My Gospel. It is available through our distribution centers and also online. The online version can be read or downloaded at no cost. It is a guidebook for missionary work—which means it is a guidebook for all of us. Read it, study it, and then apply what you learn to help you understand how to bring souls to Christ through invitation and follow-up. As President Thomas S. Monson has said, “Now is the time for members and missionaries to come together, to work together, to labor in the Lord’s vineyard to bring souls unto Him.”

…There are practical ways for members to help and support our remarkable missionaries. For example, you can tell the missionaries that you are studying Preach My Gospel and ask them to show you what they are learning in their studies. As you share with each other, increased confidence between members and full-time missionaries will surely develop, just as the Lord commanded: “But that every man [and woman] might speak in the name of God the Lord, even the Savior of the world.”7

And “Behold, I sent you out to testify and warn the people, and it becometh every man who hath been warned to warn his neighbor.”8

Brothers and sisters, can you imagine the impact if family and friends included things they are learning from their personal study of Preach My Gospel in their letters and emails to their full-time missionaries? Can you picture the blessings that will come to families when they know and understand better what their sons and daughters will be studying and teaching on their missions? Can you even begin to fathom the extraordinary outpouring of atoning grace that will be ours, individually and collectively, according to the Savior’s promise to all who bear testimony in the process of inviting souls to come unto Him—and then following up on those invitations?”

So, I’d like to invite ALL of you to start studying PMG yourselves, and let me know what you learn! It’s really fun when I can use the things you tell me in lessons, like Brin’s story of keeping the sabbath Day Holy, and I’d love to do it more often! And this way when you run out of things to tell me, you can always have a nice fall back. 🙂 And I’ll try and share the stuff I learn too!

I studied the Gospel of Jesus Christ this morning, specifically baptism. I love how before it really mentions baptism, it talks about covenants, and how important those are. Then it talks about baptism, but how it’s the FIRST covenant. There’s always more we can do!

Okay, so I’m really not even sure where to start this week, and if I were to tell you everything, it would probably take up all p-day, which probably wouldn’t be the best. 🙂 But hopefully I can cover lots of it!

TRACTING. It’s been awesome! We haven’t had everyone ask us to come back and teach them more, but everyone has been so nice, and we’ve at least been able to help lots of people feel loved. 🙂

MIRACLE MOMENT. So we really liked our miracle moment thing we’ve been doing where each weekly planning we plan a specific time, place and person to share the gospel. So we did that again. We saw a little kid wearing the clothes we picked for this week, but other wise didn’t have much success, although we did talk to one nice lady with rainbow socks and flip flops on. But then we decided we didn’t want people thinking we were just touring the park we were in, so we left. We were a little bummed that nothing had come from it when we had felt good being there at first. So we tried visiting a few more people and decided it was time for tracting at that point. So we started driving, and I had the feeling we needed to go tract a certain road. So we tried the first door–Jehovah’ Witness’s. They were really nice though! Then we both felt like we should try this other house. We knock on the door and this lady answers the door and says, “hello girls” like she knows us. So I look down, and she’s wearing rainbow socks and flip flops! Through the spirit we found this lady from the park, Jean, again! SO cool to see how the spirit works. She’s pretty happy with her religion, but she likes us and I think we might be able to weasel our way into her heart and help her see what we have to offer. 🙂

RAINBOW. That was also really cool because that day had been really rough. We didn’t have any appointments, and no less-actives to go see. We were getting a smidge discouraged, so we were praying lots and then we had that miracle happen. Then it got even better! We decided to go tracting before an appt that night, and we picked a street with just four houses. First house–found a former investigator that was totally cool with us teaching him again. Second house–found this cute little 19 yr old who JUST went to church for the first time that week. We testified that he was a son of God and he got the biggest smile and said he felt so good. AH, it was the best. And the other two houses were super nice too! Then as we walked back to the car, we looked up–RAINBOW! BIG, HUGE rainbow. Heavenly Father was just letting us know, there’s still hope. It’ll all be okay! 🙂

JASPER. He’s doing so well! I think last week we were able to build his trust in us, and this week we were able to teach him more about the Gospel. And he loves it! He’s still praying to know if it’s true, but he’s putting in the work too! He’s pretty dyslexic, so he looked on for a way to listen to The Book of Mormon, and when he couldn’t find it there, he searched YouTube and tried reading along. He got through the first three chapters and then HE tried reading it on his own for the fourth chapter. He said it’s a really cool story and definitely an inspired book. ALSO, we asked him if he would be baptized and he said he’s always wanted to be baptized! We’re going to help him gain a greater understanding of what it means, but we feel so good about it! AH, I wish I had so much more time to tell you everything, but he’s super solid and on board! AND, he brought a friend! After we taught the Restoration, he said, “Oh man, I gotta bring Steven next time. He’ll love this!”, so he brought Steven!

STEVEN. He just got back from Ketchikan and while he was there he found a Book of Mormon. He asked the lady there if she knew who’s it was, and she said no and had no idea how it could have gotten there. Well, then he asked to keep it! So when we offered him one, he already had one! He, and Jasper, LOVED the Plan of Salvation. I’ve never seen two people get so excited and mind-blown. And they thought it made perfect sense.

ROBIN AND NAN. We thought Nan had had a kind of bad experience in her Sunday School class, but it turns out she loved it and thought church was the greatest. Everyone was so nice and outgoing, and she really enjoyed class! Whew! So now she’s on board and also wants to get baptized with her mom. She even told her friend about her good experience at her church, and her friend wants to come!

FHE. Since we’re leaving at five today, we had FHE last night, all about the atonement. We had SIX YSA’s there! That was the most we’ve had ever! And they LOVED IT! Hearts are being softened, they’re realizing we’re not a cult haha and the spirit was so strong. Oh, and only one of those YSA’s are active. The rest are non-members, but they love hanging out with the Mormons. I LOVE THESE LITTLE YSA KIDDOS!

Overall, things are going really well. If you didn’t realize.
